With all the recent controversy and constant disappointing announcements coming from the FAI, the last thing they wanted to hear was that after 10 years of sponsoring the Republic Of Ireland national football teams, 3 Ireland have announced that they will be letting their contract with the FAI run out in Summer 2020.
Over the 10 years Three Ireland have invested 30 million euros in the FAI and in a statement made by Three’s commercial officer he said that “At Three we are entirely focused on supporting the men’s and women’s international teams and hope that they will both have very exciting and successful Euro qualifying campaigns and would like to wish them all the best in the future”. The FAI, also in a statement said that they “would like to thank Three for their immense contribution in the last 10 years and are looking forward to hopefully having them on board for Euro 2020 at home if they qualify”.
There are some positives to all of this however with main one being most fans hatred of the jersey sponsorship. There are also some negatives with Three pulling out; the FAI will have to find a new sponsor, this could be made difficult with all the controversy surrounding the organisation. Another positive is if they find a new wealthy sponsor there could be hopes of them saving the FAI if they are smart about running the money this time but that might bring a negative with it as the sponsors might want their logo on the jersey.
Lets just hope for the good of our national team that the FAI find a new sponsor soon for next year that could help save the Football Association of Ireland, The League of Ireland and the national teams.
