At what is a difficult time for everybody out there. Ireland international James McClean continues to help out those who are in need. Purchasing “kit, equipment and sanitisers” for healthcare workers at Altnagelvin Hospital in Co. Derry. The selfless of James McClean once again on show to public.
It’s hard to think of many other professional sport stars out there who are as kind when it comes to helping those who are most vulnerable! So it’s very sad when you see the British media and people treating him like utter crap when he does a lot more good things than bad!
This lovely gesture of buying PPE equipment to our frontline staff comes at no surprise at all. Just three weeks ago, the McClean family paid for some food hampers that included basic supplies such as nappies, medicines, toilet roll, baby supplies, cleaning products etc). At what is a very tough time for us all, the Derryman is out there making sure everyone is being looked after.
He even showed his appreciation to the League of Ireland when he contributed €25,000 to an emergency fund to help out our clubs at this financially difficult time. The point is that these sort of thoughtful gestures are what seem to get lost when it comes to peoples opinions of McClean.
You can go back further when in late January 2017, this time he made a “considerable personal donation” to go towards the cost of a heart transplant for a three-year old boy named Brayden from his native Derry. A week later, he gave a young Cork girl with a rare medical condition €1,000 to help her get to America for treatment. McClean has to be up there as being one of the most genuine and nicest human beings out there.
Another example was in Christmas 2016, when McClean joined with former Derry City striker Vincent Sweeney in donating ‘a significant amount’ of money to a charity that helps homeless men and women dependent on alcohol. He really does care about where he comes from. Once again in December 2018, when homelessness is such a big issue on our island, James and his wife Erin paid for accommodation and food for six people at the Maldron Hotel in County Derry.
The guy literally doesn’t not stop giving and I’m sure there’s lots of other times where he’s done a charitable deed. So next time anybody says anything negative about James McClean, think about what I’ve mentioned above and you might judge him differently.
